Owen

“Owen, man, rough night?” Logan stands in front of my desk, holding a cup of coffee.

“Not exactly. The design team finalized the logo.”

“Perfect! Once we get it uploaded, we’ll be able to start beta testing.”

“Did it last night.” I reach for the paper cup.

“Ha!” Logan holds it far enough away, my tired ass won’t get up to get it. “Get your own. Better yet—have your assistant fetch you a cup.”

Fuck me!

I’ve been killing myself with work the past couple weeks, and it’s not because I have to. It’s because I need to—anything to keep me busy and away from Mal.

It’s been two weeks since we had sex. Fucking crazy, wonderful, spontaneous, drunken sex. We lived in the moment—and now I live with consuming guilt and regret.

I literally got caught with my pants down, and instead of fessing up, I pretended to be asleep.

What kind of man does that?

An idiot!

“Man, you’re zoning.” Logan offers up his coffee. “You need this more than me.”

I wave him off. “I’ll go get my own.”

“FYI, Kayla may be wearing a tank top and shorts that are a little revealing.” He groans. “It’s hot. Not outside, but in her office.”

“Thanks for clarifying.”

What am I going to do with her? I’ve been a little too lax with wardrobe around here, but if I say something now, it’s discrimination.

“Do you see what Kayla has on?” Mal barges into my office and slams the door. “She has to go.”

My eyes follow as Mal continues to rant, but I don’t hear anything after she has to go.

“Owen! Snap out of it.” Mal claps like a fucking teacher and I’m her distracted student.

Hot for teacher! Now, that’s something to fantasize about.

Dammit!

That’s her word. Fuck—I need to get a grip. My head is all over the place.

“He’s been like this all morning.” Logan plops down in his seat and gives me the biggest shit-eating grin.

“Of course he has.” Mal rolls her eyes. “It’s time to grow a pair and take care of the mess you created.”

That does it. Even though Kayla dresses a little impropriate for work, she comes in and does her job—and mine most days.

“I’m not going to fire her.”

Mal retorts with a glare aimed at me.

“No, Mal!” I stand and stretch.

“Oh snap.” Logan’s eyes dart between the two of us.

“What?” Mal and I both turn our heads at the same time.

“Oh…nothing.” Logan tilts his head up, tosses a donut hole in the air, and catches it in his mouth. “Don’t mind me. Carry on.”

“Whatever.” I ignore Logan and the bullshit smile plastered across his face. “I’ve been working my ass off on this app, and while I’ve been doing that, Kayla has picked up the slack with the station. Without her, we wouldn’t be as far along as we are now.”

Mal gasps.

“This is getting good,” Logan pipes up.

My head whips around. “Don’t you have somewhere else to be? It’s not like you can’t do that from the apartment.”

“And miss all this?” Logan puts down his bag of donuts, reaching for his coffee.
